Despite our continued push, it feels like my fellow women can’t quite reach equality. We’re still making less than our male counterparts, our health is devalued by politicians and insurance companies, and we’re consistently misrepresented in the media.
It can be disheartening, but I plan to fight back. If companies will only pay us 70% of what we deserve, we should get a blanket discount on every purchase we make. I’m going to start printing discount cards for all the women I know. I’ll laminate them and hand them out. If you’d like one, let me know. Then you can go to a store and say, “Since I make a fraction of what men make, I am only going to pay a fraction of what men pay for this burrito.”
I’m guessing you will still have to pay full price for your burrito, but you might make the high school kid ringing up your order think about her value and that’s a step in the right direction. Power! Now, who has a laminator I can borrow?
